6 signs that you need to order a retainer replacement

Did you know that your retainer is NOT eternal? 😮 They will break down and need to be replaced at regular intervals.

There are

1. There are small CRACKS!

If you are examining your retainer and notice that there are cracks in the plastic, it’s time to order a replacement. These cracks will grow and the retainer won’t have the strength needed to keep your teeth in the same place.

2. It looks or feels WARPED!

Another common problem is that retainers can lose their shape. This is especially common if you clean them with very hot water.

3. It feels LOOSE!

If it feels loose it is time to replace it. When this happens, your retainer will no longer keep your teeth in place. It’s important to get a replacement before that happens because at that point your teeth will begin slowly shifting back to their original position again.

4. CALCIUM Buildup!

Over time you’ll begin to notice calcium buildup on your retainer. Even with the most particular care, this can occur. If there is so much calcium build up that you don’t want to wear your retainer anymore, it’s time to get a replacement.

5. It smells bad!

Even with regular cleaning, bacteria can accumulate and cause an unpleasant odor. If your retainer consistently smells foul despite your best efforts, it's a strong indicator that it's time for a new one to ensure proper hygiene and prevent oral health issues.

6. You lost it.

This is perhaps the most straightforward sign! Without your retainer, your teeth will inevitably begin to shift back towards their original positions. The sooner you order a replacement, the less likely you are to experience significant tooth movement and the potential need for further orthodontic work.
